Graphite and steel rewrite the laws of attraction.

Recorder: The Magnetic Notebook is a unique writing instrument. Its cover conceals an ultra-thin steel plate (made from 60% recycled scrap metal) that magnetically attracts Perpetua the pencil via two micro-magnets engineered specifically for this project. Available in three editions.

A unique, unrepeatable fragment of Venice.

Recorder Pieces of Venice is an integrated writing system. Simple yet revolutionary, it was born in Italy through the synergy of two Italian Benefit Corporations (Società Benefit): Alisea and Pieces of Venice. Both utilize circular economy materials: reclaimed oak from decommissioned Venetian mooring posts (briccole) and graphite powder—an inevitable byproduct of electrode manufacturing.

The Story

Venetian Mooring Posts and Graphite

“The briccole—the unmistakable oak piles that guide boats through the Venetian Lagoon—last 10 to 15 years at most. After that, tides, waves, and marine organisms like shipworms erode them. Being a mooring post is a demanding job! So they are replaced, because without them the Lagoon couldn't function: sailors wouldn't know where to navigate, and we’d spend all day pulling boats off sandbanks. Imagine doing that in dense fog.” A. Boscolo, Local Fisherman

A Precious Reclaimed Material

As the briccole merge with the ecosystem, the elements make the oak increasingly unique, weathered, and captivating. Before they collapse, the City of Venice replaces and disposes of them. This is where Pieces of Venice comes in—an entity deeply rooted in the lagoon's ecosystem that uses advanced woodworking techniques to give this wood new life. This edition of Perpetua Recorder is a testament to that mission: the cover is crafted from oak that stood for years in this rare, delicate ecosystem. Telling its story through responsible objects is a way to protect it, preserve it, and carry a real "piece of Venice" with you wherever you go.

The Encounter with Pieces of Venice

Grounded in shared values as Benefit Corporations, our synergy grew from a joint desire to generate a positive environmental, territorial, and social impact through design. Pieces of Venice was founded with the mission of reclaiming lagoon oak using a thoughtful, ethical approach. From our collaboration comes Perpetua Recorder Pieces of Venice, where innovatively salvaged oak becomes a tactile notebook cover.

Recorder Odissea

Artwork: "2001: Space Odyssey"

To express attraction and weightlessness, designer Marta Giardini drew inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. Just as the protagonist floats weightlessly through orbiting space stations, Perpetua Magnetica glides freely along its Recorder cover.

Recorder Tracce

Artwork: "Tracce" (Traces)

The design of Tracce, created by Marta Giardini, draws inspiration from natural patterns: the cross-section of a tree trunk, the exposed core of a split rock, or footprints left in the sand by an elusive creature. Every trace connects us to the world around us.

An attractive identity, liberated creativity.

We create bespoke projects for businesses seeking an unconventional way to share messages and values rooted in sustainability, innovation, and Made in Italy design.
