Tradition and future: divide or continuity?
Every year from 1977, May 18th International Council Museum celebrates the International Museum day. This year theme “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition”.
The role of museums in society is changing. Museums keep reinventing themselves in their quest for becoming more interactive, audience focused, community oriented, flexible, adaptable and mobile. They have become cultural hubs functioning as platforms where creativity combines with knowledge and where visitors can also co-create, share and interact. While preserving their primary missions – collecting, conservation, research and exhibition – museums have a new goal: making the community more sensitive about important global issues and suggesting innovative solutions to approach actual matters. Follow the website of the international museum day to find out which museums take part in the project Official hashtag: #MuseumDay #IMD2019
“As central institutions in the society, museums have the power to establish a dialogue between cultures and building bridges for a peaceful world by contributing to sustainable development.”
Perpetua was created, designed and produced to talk about values, innovation, art and culture: not just a pencil, therefore, but a symbol of progress that many museums have chosen to talk about their future.
